Ever walked into the kitchen in the middle of the night, switched on the light and seen little pests scurrying away into dark corners just before you have had a good look at them? Those are roaches in your home! These pests tend to come out during the night. However, if you spot a few of them milling about during daylight, you may have a serious problem on your hands. There are several steps that you can take to ensure that you have gotten rid of cockroach from your home.
- Do not underestimate proper hygiene around your home. This is especially true in the kitchen. Roaches can survive on barely a few crumbs of food so you have to ensure that you are not leaving them these crumbs. Clean all food preparation surfaces thoroughly once you are done preparing food. In addition to that, do not leave any dirty dishes waiting by the sink. Clean them as soon as the meal has been had so that the cockroach do not have a chance to feed off them during the night.
- Get rid of their hiding places. Roaches like dark corners where they can hide in peace. Clean out cabinets and take out any shelf paper that is either crumpled up or folded in some areas. If you have any loose wallpaper, ensure you replace it as the roaches could also find a way of hiding in it. Any cracks and crevices in your walls should be filled up thus preventing the roaches from finding any hiding places.
- Eliminate any water sources. Cockroach can go for days without food. However, they need water to survive. Ensure there are no leaking taps or any puddles of water that remain in sinks and what not. This way they will not have any access to the water that they need on a daily basis.
